2025-26

  • Replanted and updated eight beautiful seascapes along LakeShore Drive

  • Assisted with the Easter Egg Hunt in the park, the spring Arbor Day Fun Run, and the Boo Fest

  • Installed new benches and picnic table on the park pier

  • Planted dozens of trees in our neighborhoods

  • First Oktoberfest fundraising event

2023 - 2024 

  • Tree dedication to John Boll, Founding Member and Trustee Emeritus, at Osius Park

  • Installed a safer stairs and entrance way to City Hall: replaced pavers, including all-electric heating

  • Donated architectural design costs for pool reconstruction project

  • Replaced weather-worn trash bins around the park

  • Replaced transportation carts in the park

  • Repaired the lookouts along the shoreline 

  • Installed a new beach volleyball court at the park, which includes an adjustable volleyball net, racquets, balls and boundary tape

  • Made improvements to the bases and walking areas around the bleachers at the Vernier Hill baseball diamond at Vernier Hill

  • Planted dozens of trees in our neighborhoods

  • First Gathering and Giving fundraising event

2021 - 2022 

  • Installed a new pickle ball court, complete with windscreens and equipment

  • Provided new fencing surrounding the park perimeter

  • Upgraded the playscape equiment to include an ADA compliant swing

  • Added baby pool toys and toy chest as well as pool safety equipment

  • Installed a new pool record board and a digital lap timer​

  • Improved the brick paver outlooks

  • Purchased an electric shuttle golf cart for park use

  • Continued the set up, maintenance, and teardown of the ice rink at Vernier Hill

  • First two Leaves and Laughter fundraising event​​​s

2019 - 2020

We didn't let the pandemic stop us!

  • Upgraded the playground with tot lot play equipment in the park

  • Installed an ice rink (seasonal) outside the Field House​

  • Initiated the annual raffle for a reserved parking spot at the park and the rights to name the entrance drive into the park

  • Continued with tree plantings around the Village​​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Initiated the Deck Your Halls Holiday Decor and More holiday shopping event

2017 - 2018

  • Donated $100,000 towards the refurbishment of the tennis courts in the park

  • Replaced bricks and installed exposed aggregate concrete at the pool house entrance

  • Rebuilt the Vernier bell tower brick wall

  • Provided a facelift to the eight Lake Shore seascape gardens

  • Repaired the baby pool liner and leveled the splash pad

  • Added walkway pavers at the park

  • Planted dozens of trees in our neighborhoods​

  • Hosted our fifth Open Our Doors fundraising event

  • Added walkway pavers in the park

  • Purchased and installed 14 new barbecue grills in the park

  • Added pier benches in the park

  • Installed an additional kayak ramp

  • Re-outfitted the old one-sided basketball court as a pickleball court

  • Purchased portable pickleball equipment

  • Trimmed trees at the park

  • First Celebrate, Decorate, Entertain fundraiser

2013 - 2014 

  • Installed the children's splash pad near the pool at the park and landscaped and paved the area around it

  • Added the gardens at the Shroeder Field House

  • Identified over 11 planting locations and installed new trees as a result of 2014 weather storms

  • Purchased and instaled a kayak rack for the park

2009 - 2012 

  • Designed and constructed the Schroeder Field House

  • Added woodchips to Lake Shore Rd. islands

  • ​Purchased pickleball equipment for the park

  • Added tables and umbrellas to the park walkway lookout areas

  • Refurbished the park Exit sign

  • Installed the basketball court

  • Initiated a multi-year decorative lamp replacement program

  • Installed swim team record boards

  • Initiated the GPSIF website 

  • Celebrated 25 years of Foundation projects and improvements (2009)

Prior to 2009

  • Built the four-season pavilion in the park

  • Refurbished the Mendelssohn (north) park gate

  • Established the tree planting program

  • Installed Lake Shore sprinklers

  • Installed lighted street signs and posts

  • ​Installed "interior" street signs

  • Built the first children's playscape in the park

  • Constructed the Vernier School Bell Tower

  • Added fencing around Vernier field

  • Installed the Tagheuer clock on the bath house

  • Initialted the park walkway / brick paver program

  • Installed the park entrance information sign

  • Dedication the time capsule (2004)

  • Installed park viewing binoculars and teak benches

  • Added shaded seating around the pool

  • Initiated the Open Our Doors fundraiser

The GPSIF also provides ongoing support for Village events, such as the Easter Egg Hunt and
the Arbor Day Fun Run
